New to Nannies

Hi, we are considering hiring a nanny but we would only need him/her for about 30 mins per day, every weekday morning, probably 7am to 7.30am. Are there nannies out there who would do this and if so where do I find them? We are completely new to this and have no idea where to even begin.

I think I would start by asking neighbours if they have any young adults, late teens who want an early morning job before college. I am struggling to think who this might appeal to, they need to be extremely local as it won't be worth their while travelling for only 30 minutes paid work.

Once you have found someone, the employer tax side of things will depend on if the person has other income. If they will earn under £118 per week (Lower Earnings Threshold for National Insurance), then you do not need to run payroll. If you feel they are likely to get additional employment then you should run payroll and will have to run payroll if they get other income. For 2.5 hours per week you won't be paying them enough to contribute towards pension or enough to pay employers National Insurance. I am assuming you are not going to be paying them mega amounts... I expect you are talking £50 or less per week in terms of their salary.

Thank you, thing is I need someone who can drive as they will need to drop our little boy at breakfast club at school. Unless they would do 7am to 9am for similar cost

Are you sure you're not in the market for a childminder?

Honestly, you may struggle to find a nanny. 7am means an early wake up call, and the pay wouldn't be worth it for just a half hour's work. Think to yourself if you'd like to get up early and travel to your job just to work and be paid for a half hour each day.

I have a minimum 3 hour booking policy, I'm a professional and my time is valuable. Even if you find someone that has another job to go to, given the early hours most people would rather stay in bed that wake up at 6 to get ready for a job that will earn them about £30 a week.

This sounds more like a babysitting job for some pocket money that might suit a sixth former before school.

I'd also be amazed if you could get anyone reliable to do that.

You'd be better finding a childminder near to school...(or starting work 30 minutes later).
