Hello,

I'm totally new to interviewing for an au pair. Any tips on the questions I should ask?

Thank you x

First of all check your non-negotiable i.e. length of stay, visas/passport, driving (check they drive regularly and have a full licence if you need a driver)
Why they want to come to the UK
What they want to do in their spare time when they are here
What they would do in an emergency - I usually use the "fire in the kitchen" scenario
What they like to eat and if they have an dietary restrictions.
If they have a boyfriend/girlfriend and if so, how he/she feels about them going away.
If they like children and what experience they have with children of the ages of yours.
What they'd like to get out of the experience.
Ask if they have any questions at all.
I also ask what they'd like to do in the future as often I can help them get expieences whilst here that will help their future CV

Ask their interests, favourite foods, any health issues or allergies to be aware of. What experience they have with children, do they have any friends/family in your area, why do they want to be an AP/

Have a look on aupairworld, lots of advice and questions on there.

Do they have friends where you live? What will they do in their spare time?

I ask this as TBH it's worked well for us having sociable au pairs who go out and do their own thing when not on duty, as we are quite busy with wider family etc at weekends so we're not really able to be like a second family/home-from-home setting - you want to be sure they will be happy with how you do things.
