30 hour free childcare and eligibility question

chinkyminky · 25/01/2020 17:43

I(my partner is full time employed ~30k/annum) don't work anymore but have a steady income from rented properties. My little one would soon be three years old.

Eligibility for free childcare requires more than £130/week. I make more than that but would my investment income be eligible for that?
Looking for answers as I couldn't find answers in my search or hmrc site. Would be of great help if anyone can share their expertise.

Thank you

I don’t think so. The 30 hours childcare is for those who are working. Income from other sources not related to work is irrelevant I believe?

You need to call the helpline.

You aren’t working so no you are not eligible

The 30 hours is for working parents.

If he is self employed he show check as rental income counts towards net income and taxable income. He should get some tax free childcare provision even if he can't get the 30 hours.

Look at one of the eligibility websites.

Everyone gets 15 hours the term after their third birthday regardless of income. The additional 15 are for working parents but if you were self employed then should be able to have it.

Thank you for all your responses. When I say rental income, it's not without any work. I still have to do all the admin/maintenance/repairs etc.

@cabbageking can you please elaborate more on what you mean. thx
