Overnight care cost

Hello, I am looking for overnight care for my two year old son. What I am struggling with is the cost I should be expecting to pay and whether the cost is more with a qualified night nanny than a babysitter. What have people been charged/paid in the past? Thanks

why not speek with a nanny/childcare agency?

I often work nights caring for children and I receive my normal hourly rate up to 10pm then from 10pm to 7am (or whenever the children wake up) I get the minimum wage of £8.21 as a sleeping rate. Hope this helps.

There is very little choice where I live for over night care. There is only one childminder in the town who offers this service. I don’t know what she charges at the moment, but when we spoke about it a couple of years ago, it was £10ph, for every hour between 6pm and 8am (her normal hours). As childminders our hourly rate at that time would have been around £3.75ph. She did have people use the service, but I guess it would have priced a lot of families out at that price. I imagine it’s gone up since then too.

It very much depends on area though and what’s available where you are.

I'm a childminder and do overnight 8pm-6am at the same rate as my day rate of £40.

As a nanny I have done it from time to time, typically around £100-£150 per night depending on the hours involved.

Cost will vary. Some providers may do a lower rate for midnight-5am whilst others will not as children can wake at anytime and the provider is on duty the entire time, they may or may not get a typical nights sleep. Sleeping at someone else's home being responsible for someone else's child tends to mean not sleeping as well as you would at your own home without the care responsibility.

Childminders often charge an enhanced rate for overnight hours if they offer care from their homes because....it effects who can visit them, adults going upstairs unsupervised, what's on tv (family members cant watch what they want have alcohol) what everyone wears to bed....incase of wondering children , sleep if they are listening out for your child and then start work at 7 am until 6pm it could impact on the next day especially if lo I'd Ill has nightmares of cant sleep..

Tbh I’d be looking for someone who wasn’t going to be doing any daycare on the days either side. Otherwise you’re getting someone who’s worked a near 24 hour stretch, which raises questions about the standard of care. But you’d then be needing to pay a rate commensurate with a full day’s wage.
