Nanny's - sick pay and mileage

Hi,

Does anyone have any advice on 'typical' rates for re-imbursing car mileage for a Nanny. Also what is standard for sick pay?

Thanks

Do a google search for statutory sick pay, but from recollection, it's about £66 per week. I was told by some kind MN ladies that mileage is recommended to be 40p per mile if the nanny is using her own car...

Standard is to put SSP only into the contract, but to go ahead and pay sick days if you can and if nanny is genuinely ill. Basically, if I would go to work, I expect nanny to come to work. I would not expect her to come to work if she has strep throat. I would expect her to come to work if she has period cramps or a common cold.

While approved mileage rate is 40p per mile, for first 10,000 miles... you can agree a different rate with your nanny. For example, as a nanny I don't get 40p per mile as the family I work for could not afford it - I typically do in excess of 80 miles a week. Therefore so that we could continue to visit interesting places, go to families centre, swimming etc, we decided to agree a flat rate towards fuel cost. It's not ideal, but if you find your nanny does a lot of mileage, you will either have to limit that mileage, or agree an alternative pay amount.

most nannies i know have a week or 2 weeks on full pay before SSP commences.

I get 40p per mile which is normal as well

i didnt limit my mileage btw... in my last job i was doing 45 miles per day on the SCHOOL RUN
