I haven't had a CBR done since 2001, when I rang to have one done was told I didn't need it, as I would have told them if anything had changed !!!!!!!!!!!!! I asked if I could pay for one to be done, and was told I could but the waiting list was so far behind it could take a year!!!!

But my friend who is also a CM had one done here, moved 6 months later and had another done, then had one done 2 weeks later so she could help with cadets!!!.

Why Oh why aren't we all done every three years and given a pin number, which would let different nurseries authorities etc access our CBR.

Because that would be far too easy and make so much more sense! I've got 3! One for cm, one for Guiding and one for school!

Shoshable · 28/08/2007 17:40

I forgot Ofsted/sense doesn't compute

My last one was done in 2004. Before that I had one done in 2001.
DH has had two done for my childminding, one because of his job, one because he referees under 16's sometimes, one because he used to help out occasionally with beavers and cubs and that's about it really.

Next year he will get another one done for my childminding, so that will be 6 he has had done in 6 years

I think they should be like ypour Driving license

A photo card which costs say £100 plus a paper sheet that gets updated each year for £25

That way it would be transferrable between settings

So far this year, I have one CRB Disclosure. I have another in the pipeline.
Last year, I had 3 CRB Disclosures.

It is a bit silly that there can't be a better way of doing things. I would like there to be a national database of childcare workers - whereby everyone has some form of ID card which enables employers to check current CRB check status, qualifications etc. However, I am sure there must be some issues regarding why a national database can't be done... big brother watching us for example.

Dont nurses have a dtabase with a pin number tho?

hennipenni · 28/08/2007 19:01

Yes shosha, I used to be a registered nurse, we all have/had PIN numbers and were all registered with a governing body.

Shoshable · 28/08/2007 19:13

SO WHY CANT WE it would be so much more simple and more up to date.

saltire · 29/08/2007 09:54

We can't because it would be sensible, and from what I've had to deal with and you lot have told me OFSTED aren't sensible.
The Care Commission are a bit better, but I don't suppose it would occur to them either

Hi everyone,

Sorry to hijack... as some of you might know i have employed a nanny that doesn't have a CRB check... perhaps a bit irresponsable from my part... but we have tried everything.... and no one seems to be able to help "legally".. i have followed the tips on many threads but no luck... I am currently giving it my last attempt... it is just bloody stupid...

talking about databases... what about the children database the goverment is planning to implement.... i am SO ANGRY at it... children of celebs and politicians will be exempt.... DISGUSTING!

sorry to hijack again!

devil · 29/08/2007 11:37

i have a C.R.B pending,i have just spoke to a angency and they said to be sure start reg they would also do a C.R.B.a up to date one should be here any day now!!
please could you tell me why this is.

nannynick · 29/08/2007 17:55

For a nanny in England already in a job, the easiest way of them getting a CRB check I think would be for them to register with the Ofsted Childcare Register (current cost £100). As part of that, Ofsted carry out an Enhanced CRB check, and they use Verify so paperwork only needs to be taken to a postoffice.

Other than that, nanny-check can do pre-employment screening of nannies and as part of that include a CRB check - but not sure they will do the CRB check on it's own. Nanny-Check post to this board on occasion, so perhaps they will confirm regarding if they can carry out just a CRB check (and if so, at what cost), or if they have to combine that with other employment checks (as the CRB have rules which need to be followed, by organisations who can request a CRB check - think they have to be making a Recruitment Decision, though not sure).

nannynick · 29/08/2007 17:56

devil - CRB checks are not portable, therefore SureStart Childcare Approval Scheme (now in the process of being replaced by the Ofsted Childcare Register) carries out a new CRB check for applications. It also helps confirm the applicants ID.

Chelseamum · 29/08/2007 18:37

Many thanks nannynick....advice much appreciated as always!

eleusis · 29/08/2007 19:06

Hey Chelsea. I actually don't care if nanny has a CRB or not. I hire my nannies from abroad so what's the point? I think it's a false sense of security quite frankly. I guess it's nice if a nanny comes waving one in the interview, but it's not important to me.

Now, if she eats crappy white bread and feeds my kids tesco value meals, now that would upset me. Ok ok, SHE can eat crappy white bread, but I'd rather she didn't.

Chelseamum · 29/08/2007 21:58

thanks eleusis... i agree with you but i'd rather she'd had it for my peace of mind .... she hadn't eaten anything this week although I have told her she can have anything from our kitchen... she seemed quite puzzled by the Quinoa....

A bit of direction and she will be fine!

Many thanks again for your comments!

nannynick · 29/08/2007 22:13

What's a Quinoa... can you eat that?

nannynick · 29/08/2007 22:20

Ok, I found it. Google to the rescue as ever. Don't think I've had that in our veg box yet... mind you, can get some strange things I can't identify in our veg box. Didn't get any training on identifying strange objects in organic veg boxes on my nanny training course!

Back to the CRB thing - certainly if the nanny comes from abroad, there is no point whatsoever in having a CRB check done. However a local police check is available from some countries prior to the nanny leaving that country, so they could get one of those as evidence of them not having a criminal record.
