Nannys who offer baby sitting

Hello, after my mum has admitted that she can’t copy with the children for over nights or the bedtime routine anymore (due to her age, not because my children are frightful. I am an older mum myself so she is older), I am considering a nanny who offers baby sitting so I can go out with my husband and or older daughter occasionally. I am looking for someone who can confidently look after a 1 year old, put to bed and deal with if she wakes up before I am home. I have never used childcare outside of family before, for this sort of thing and don’t know where to start really. Can anyone offer advice? Where do I find one and how do I make sure they are safe etc. There are a few lovely older teenagers I would happily leave my older one with, but I wouldn’t want to give them the baby.

Many thanks all.

Where are you based?

There are agencies that do all the leg work for you, check references and do a police check, make sure they have first aid certificates etc

Have you got any other mum friends who may already use someone?

I am in Devon. Yes I had a look at the agencies but confused me more. None of my mum friends have nannies. They use the helpful lovely teenager, who are indeed lovely and helpful. But not experienced enough for a baby who wakes frequently and needs a proper bedtime routine to get to sleep.

What about looking at this website or ask on a local facebook page for your areawww.sitters.co.uk/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAuefvBRDXARIsAFEOQ9EgYzbw-Hmr3P_MkGcmE8oTvFuip9jWqdZ1DsDetESjzZj8gfTGPe0aAvXVEALw_wcB

Have you got childcare.co.uk

Ploppymoodypants · 18/12/2019 13:35

Thank you both. Just had a look at childcare.co.uk
Which looks helpful. I guess I just interview them do I? Will they be happy to do that just for baby sitting? Sorry for all the questions...

People who just do babysitting are not 'employed' by you as such and are highly unlikely just to babysit for you. Some will want to meet you before and some may not. Message a few baby sitters and find out. A nanny is normally someone who is employed by you to look after your children on long term basis like when you are at work. A a babysitter just normally does odd evenings if you want to go out

A babysitter will just babysit for you and more than likely for other families....

Yes, definitely meet them. I would meet more so for a friendly chat, talk about your children and there routine and needs and see if she 'feels' like she could be a match for your needs.

Make sure to check ID and References

As a nanny I get most of my work, nannying and babysitting via ChildcareCoUk. Occasionally I get work via local Facebook group. So you could try posting on a local Facebook group and seeing if you get anyone interested. Be clear about what typical hours would be and what you are looking to pay.

For babysitting I prefer to meet children prior to sitting for the first time, so yes do have a mini-interview. Have a chat via email/messenger first, get to know what they do as their main work - do they have experience, own transport, first aid training. Then invite them over to meet - have a cup of tea together, spend 30-60 mins letting them get to know you and your daughter.

Thank you everyone, I have registered for that website, and feel slightly better equipped now.

Try 'The parent and child nanny agency' or 'Little Wrens'. They're both based in Devon and nannies have to be qualified/experienced/DBS checked to be signed up to them.
