Help with nanny pay

I'm after a bit of guidance
We've never employed a nanny before, I'm struggling with working out how I'm going to afford it tbh but I work shifts and have 3 kids so it's my only option.

I've found a lovely nanny, she's asked if she can bring her own child. Who's 1 I think.
I really have no issues with this but does this mean I can negotiate a reduced rate ?

I'm in the north of England, does anyone know the going rate ? I take it it has to be living wage ??

It has to be at least National Minimum Wage based on their age.
You can negotiate pay based on them bringing their own child but salary cannot go below NMW.

Finding an average wage for an area can be tricky, especially in areas where there may not be many nannies. Try looking at websites like NannyJob.co.uk which list jobs posted by agencies and parents.

Consider the cost of a childminder, double that and add maybe 20%. That maybe close to what a nanny maybe expecting to be paid as gross salary. I would anticipate that £10 gross per hour is probably what you would need to be offering.

Your costs will be higher as there is a tax called Employers National Insurance. There is also employer pension contribution.
You will also have activity costs and if nanny uses their car to transport your children then you contribute towards the running costs of the car (up to 45p per mile).

Contact a nanny payroll provider (such as NannyPaye, PayeForNannies, Way2Paye) for more details about your costs once you have a good idea of what gross pay you will be paying your nanny.

Ask the nanny what salary they are expecting, they may have a figure in mind.

What did you advertise the job at ?

And yes many nwoc will accept a reduced rate. Often 10/20% less

But as nice said has to be over nmw
