Hi, I am a long standing childminder. Due to personal circumstances beyond my control I am thinking of packing it in.
I know I have to inform Ofsted but do I need to actually give them a time frame /notice or do l just say I'm stopping now.
Thanks.

I think if you know a timeframe you could give them a heads up but I don't think it's essential. Alternatively you could just leave your registration as it is incase you want to go back to it before you need to do your annual renewal then if you don't renew it will just cancel.

Oh, I thought you had to tell them if you were stopping and then they cancelled your registration??

If you tell them you are stopping it will make sure you don't get inspected but I think you can just let your registration lapse. Be aware though that if you do that then change your mind you have to go through the whole registration process again.
It might be worth emailing them to get their best advice.

Remember you have to keep records for a certain amount of time. I think you still have to pay your annual ico fee too.

Unless something has happened that means you could never restart I think I'd just stay no children on role until your certain just in case.

  1. Inform clients, give notice etc.
  2. Once no children being cared for, send an email to Ofsted to say that there are No Children On Roll.
  3. When nearing renewal date, inform Ofsted that you want to resign the registration.

Whilst you have no children on roll you can still be inspected, so once you have made a definite decision resign.

Great.
Thanks for all replies. Will have a think and try and make a decision over the weekend.

You can have no children on roll for up to 3 years and then Ofsted can take steps to cancel your registration if you didn't mind during those 3 years (they ask for proof that you've minded). If you decided to do that rather than resign then you would still need to pay your fee and continue to meet requirements e.g. paperwork up to date, first aid. You CAN still be inspected whilst you have no children on roll, you just don't get a grading. You'd get a met/not met judgement.

They've changed their process for resigning now so you need to email in to [email protected] from the email address that you have registered with them if you want to resign Smile
