Au pair in Australia

Hi, I'm new to all this so I hope you'll all be patient with me. I live in Australia and my husband and I are considering an au pair. We are in the process of buying a house that will have a spare bedroom but it doesn't have an en-suite in that room. I'm really looking for any info that anyone can give, finding one, understanding who is a good fit, everything involved.

I’m specifically looking for some advice on how finances and rules work? Eg., I think that the person lives with you, and provides childcare, light housework, transporting to/from school and activities and whatever else is agreed on and you provide them with board and food and “spending money”? Is that the case? If so, is anyone willing to give me a breakdown in costs, like how much spending money is acceptable, how much the extra person costs, rules on employment legislation, insurance, and house rules that you set etc? Many thanks if you’re willing to share.

(For info, this will be for a family of six - two teens who are self sufficient, two young primary kids, one parent who works fairly regular office hours but will need to be away for a couple of weeks at a time, and one emergency services shift worker who works two overnights in 5 days).

Most of us on here are UK based and the regulations are different. Au pair world is usually quite accurate when it comes to what you can and can't do - but you need to check yourself (maybe with an au pair agency in Australia).
