I may have to do night shifts and will need someone to sleep in for perhaps 6 nights per month and in the mornings, take one to school then the other on to the playgroup.

How much should I expect to pay someone to do this? I was thinking of putting an ad in the local college for someone doing a childcare qualification but who would be able to drive.

have you considered an au pair ?

or would you not fancy having someone live with you permanently?

No I hadn't, although I have no problems with having someone to live with me. Do you know the normal set up with au pairs- would I need to cook their dinner etc?

i think that you should call it a sleep in shift rather than night shift and pay as follows:

hourly rate from when they arrive to going to bed (say 1030pm). set sleep in rate of £25quid (covers 1030pm to 630am)or thereabouts with a clause that this includes first hour of waking. any further hours charged at hourly rate on top. then hourly rate from whenever your dcs would normally wake up.

definatley a job for students. I did something similar as a student and loved it.
