Would it be reasonable to ask this or not?

it's DS's last day at the cm's today. The final bill I think is a few quid more than the deposit she has. She asked me to pay this bill this morning but would it be unreasonable of me to ask to just pay the difference between the deposit and the bill? Ie, £2 rather than £102. She hasn't mentioned anything about returning the deposit. TIA!

If you've got a contract that says you paid £100 deposit, then absolutely.

It does indeed state that a £100 deposit is required. I remember the cheque clearing too as it was one of those forgotten about bills (she cashed it about two months later!). I've asked anyhow. Thanks!

Goodo! Bet she's gutted she's only getting paid 2 quid today!

Some childminders take a deposit and knock it off the first week's fees. Are you sure that didn't happen? Is it a while ago? Do you get receipts from her?

I've never heard of this before (refunding, or crediting deposit), what was your deposit for? Are you sure you get it back and it's not just as bradfordmum describes??

FlossALump · 08/08/2007 17:13

No it was right and she was ok about it all. Thank you!

A deposit usually secures your place before your child starts and covers the childminder/nursery against you leaving without giving proper notice.

When dd left nursery we got our deposit knocked off our final months bill.
