Childminder has never asked for a pay rise, what's the current rate?

My childminder has been looking after my child since she was a baby. She's now a schoolgirl. In all these years the childminder has never asked for a raise.
I think this is getting embarrassing. So I want to offer her a raise.
What is the going rate for a full day 8.30am to 5.30pm during the hols? And what is the rate for 3.30pm to 5.30pm term time school pick ups?
We're in London zone 2.
Thank you

My cm charges 5.50 per hour, which seems about average round here - some charge less some more. We are in a large city not far out of London...I imagine you’d expect to pay more where you live.

Try searching Childcare.co.uk or local council website for rates in your local area.

Essex based, £25 per day for my 2 year old and £15 top up if the sibling goes

Trees2905 · 14/08/2019 20:15

I paid £60 a day in central London 3 years ago.

Polyethyl · 15/08/2019 10:41

Oh! I'll feel less guilty then. She was on £65 per day.
And I've decided to put her up to £72 per day or £8 per hour.

Surely she decides what she charges, not you?

MrsElizabethShelby · 15/08/2019 18:11

Yes, surely the childminder decides her charges not you? If you mean nanny then your massively underpaying.

VeThings · 15/08/2019 18:18

Do you mean a nanny? £8 is very low for London zone 2.

If you do men’s a childminder, she sets her own rates. You could give her a gift card loaded with a few hundred pounds of you wanted to really show your appreciation.

modgepodge · 15/08/2019 19:10

£25 per day seems insanely cheap! Is it a full day or just a few hours?

Imaystillbedrunk · 15/08/2019 22:07

Oh it is insanely cheap, I've told her many times but she insists that it's what she wants to charge.

Drop off at 7.30/8ish, pick up 5.30/6ish. I provide meals and nappies she provides snacks and drinks. I'm very fortunate

mymadworld · 16/08/2019 12:49

That's really sweet of you and I was going to say central London £7.50-8/ hr is about the going rate

CottonSock · 16/08/2019 12:53

I have this issue with my cleaner op. Never asked for a raise. I was going to offer one, but then her cleaning partner quit and she comes with another person who isn't as good. I'm staying quiet for now, but do give holiday pay that's extra.

Frazzlerock · 16/08/2019 12:53

You could suggest she put her fees up, but it's not really up to you to to give her a raise, as lovely as it is.
