they have a parent with two children(single parent) and want to place two toddlers one overnight stay every two weeks..sounds ok, me thinks, no issues re parent(drugs etc) no issues re children(SN)..then she hits me......................they pay £2.50 PEr child per hour...so £5 for both children over night!..that is £7 an hour less than i wuld get for 2 children over night on my normal rate..i thought she was going to say they pay that and parent pays rest but no!!!!...feel a bit bad on mum but 2 babies(1&2) for £5 per hour all through night!

I am gobsmacked pinkchick ! This is penny-pinching big-style, do the SS have even a tiny clue as to what the going rates for overnight care are ? Makes you despair really. Those poor children. FWIW I would'nt do it for less than my standard fee, it's not your fault that SS have pitched their fee too low hon . x

moljam · 02/08/2007 14:25

im being nosey but blimey!if my ds ever had to stay overnight at cms id expect to pay more than normal daytime rates!not less!
sorry for being nosy, will go now!

PinkChick · 02/08/2007 15:22

your not nosy, its fine!..yes i felt bad as this mother obv needs a bit of a break(dont we all, even those with dp's/dh's!) but £2.50 is 50p less than my full time rate and £1.50 less than my part time daily rate!..im one of the only cm's around to offer overnight care, surely she must have been cringing asking me!

That is terrible

When I did a SS one (not overnight) I got double my normal rate (which I thought ridiculous - he needed no extra care) so I did double hours and "took" my normal rate - didn't tell SS

PinkChick · 02/08/2007 19:41

hmm, our local ss must be low on funds then!

OMG thats ot even minimum wage

surely that cant be even legal?

lisad123 · 02/08/2007 21:27

tell them to bog off. I work for ss and they will try and get away with as little payment as possible. You would still be cheaper than a fostercarer at your going rate. Tell them its not acceptable, they pay shared carers more than that.

They have more money to pay out if they need to.

Surely if the kids are asleep they don't need as much care/attention as a child who is awake & needs fed/entertained?

lisad123 · 02/08/2007 21:34

they might need care during the night, especially if very young and you are fully resonsible for them, i would think same pay would be acceptable.

Charlottesweb · 02/08/2007 21:35

Yes, same pay, but not necessarily more?

maximummummy · 02/08/2007 22:27

i think it should be a higher rate
also as these kids are only 1 & 2 and in a strange house it highly likely they'll wake and wake PinkChicks kids up too

jellyjelly · 03/08/2007 17:05

You should always get more pay rather than less for overnight care charlottesweb.

gess · 03/08/2007 17:20

SS pay ds1's (SM) childminder £7.20 an hour. £2.50 does seem to be a little bit unreasonable.....

gess · 03/08/2007 17:20

oh the £7.20 is for DAYTIME care.

PinkChick · 04/08/2007 20:51

so whats the £2.50 all about then????

Katymac · 04/08/2007 20:52

Taking you for a mug?

PinkChick · 04/08/2007 20:56

FFS, that poor girl could have had a night off courtesy of me had they not be so bloody tight!
