Shared childminder

Our DS currently goes to after school at his old crèche. We've recently become unhappy with it because they have too many children in there and he's bored. We know three other families who had kids in the same school who are also not happy with it.

I'm thinking of suggesting that we find a shared childminder to look after four children, all ages 5 & 6, rotating between all of our houses.

Can I ask childminders what your thoughts would be and any concerns you might have, and also other parents if you have any experience of a shared childminder set up?

Thank you!

By childminder I think you mean nanny as care is at your homes not the home of the care provider.

What country are you in? What you propose would not be legal in the UK but it might be in your county.
In the UK a nanny can care for children from one or two families at the same time but not more than that.

Childminders work in their own homes, and almost always have children from different families, so always shared.

A childminder can have up to 6 children under 8 at any one time, so yes you could all find the same one in theory.

If you want someone in your home you need a nanny or au pair.

Thank you both. I'm in Ireland. We've actually got a short term plan in place but still thinking about this for longer term. Good point on the terminology - I think I mean nanny!

Ireland childcare regulations may well be different. So try to find out what is allowed and what is not.
