New Name Ideas for the merged topic area

Childcare Options, Nannies, Aupairs
These are all being considered for merging with Childminders.
For some reason MNHQ is not thinking of merging Nurseries.

If a merge is to occur then anything to do with childcare should be merged and grouped under the topic Childcare.

If there are to be sub topics to Childcare, then what would the topic title be for the merge of Childminders, Nannies, AuPairs and other Childcare Options?

Any ideas (also, don't forget to let MNHQ know your feelings about merging via the official MNHQ threads on the individual topic pages).

I agree with you.

And have a vague recollection that the childminders topic was set up for childminders to talk about providing childcare. Do they even want an influx of parents? It strikes me as very similar to merging 'primary education' with 'the staff room'

And a merged to If definitely needs a clear name, that shows it covers all possibilities , whether that is childminder, au pair, nanny, after school/holiday club, temporary and emergency arrangements and even how to make arrangements within your family without ending up with murderous thoughts.

What would be the best umbrella term for that? Because a list really is too unwieldy

Who will have the children whilst I go to work?

I think ‘Childcare’ or something more of an umbrella term would be better than keeping nurseries separate of they aren’t going to keep the separate sections any more.

What makes nurseries so special? childminders nannies and au pair options are all as different as nurseries are to them. It all adds to the parental confusion of what each one does, or differs.

Bamaluz · 02/08/2019 20:04

Didn't it used to be called Home Childcare before it all got separated in the first place or am I misremembering?

AuntieStella · 03/08/2019 07:30

Someone pointed out to me that lots of parents post in the Childminders section, and no they donmt mind. So ignore that bit.

And I think it would be confusing to have childminders in a secure n called 'home childcare' because unlike nannies, aupairs, family; they do not work in your home. Yes they work in theirs, but that's not quite the same.

If MN no longer want as many topics about childcare, then they sorely need a new on called 'Childcare'

Not lumping different types under the name of just one and expecting new posters to be psychic and just know that the thing they are interested in can actually be found nder the name of a totally different thing.

Call it Confused.Mom

..... because there are vast numbers of mums seeking childcare who are entirely unaware of the differences and therefore lump childminders/babysitters/nannies, etc altogether. I’ve even known mums who consider cleaning and dog-walking to be childminder duties. Not to mention those who assume they’re entitled to a personal tutor, party entertainer, taxi service, chef and toilet trainer, plus multiple other roles, all for the price of a childminder.

I'd just lump it all together and call it "Childcare" - weird to keep nurseries separate.

I'm sure it all used to be one childcare section and we managed anyway?
