Was wondering what you would so, my mindee is 7 and i normally have her afterschool but of course longer in the holidays, Mum gives me shifts ( she is a nurse) 3 weeks ago and tomorrow she is meant to be working so i have charged for them hours ( 8 hours) - Just dropped mindee of and said that she is trying to get tomorrow off as she (mum) is knacked - Now she hasn't asked about the money and as far as im concerned i am avalible to work and not my fault !

Would you offer her any money back or give her any if she asks ??

Just to say there are weeks when i only have her once and i dont charge a Retainer for these short weeks

No No No No No

If I take DD1 out of nursery, I don;t get a refund, it is my choice. You should really charge a retainer fee to keep the place open too. I don;t know how you manage with not knowing what money is coming in. If mum hasn;t mentioned then really don;t worry.

nope. I think that is much too short of notice to expect not to pay.

eleusis · 30/07/2007 13:38

Or maybe you need a minimum number of guaranteed hours?

I pay 3 days a week nursery fees for ds1 for 50 weeks a year (they allow us 2 for holidays, but it is divide by 12). If I take him out, I pay, if he is out for sickness, I pay and if a nursery day falls on a bank holiday, I pay.

She should be paying regardless

mumlove · 30/07/2007 14:19

What if the mum was just trying to let you know that she was going to have the day off but would still send her child so she can rest. Then if any problems happened you know not to phone work?

looneytune · 30/07/2007 14:34

Was going to say what mumlove said - she probably will still use you. If no, NO, DO NOT refund!!!

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 30/07/2007 14:40

Thank you - no muy meant she wouldnt be coming as its a 6.45 - 7 start in the morning - as i wouldnt have to get up.

I would wait and see what happens. Last time I was ill, I only stayed at home because the nursery could take ds at short notice... She might just drop the mindee off later.

PinkChick · 30/07/2007 15:05

def charge as normal, its their absence!

i have with all my mindees a minimum hours contract..my full timer has 40 hrs min and occasioannly gos over but most of time is well under, but i AM available for those 40 hours for HER, one of my part timers has a 12 hour one a day a week contract, they reg use 9 hours but AM available if they need me for the full 12(i sometimes even let them spread it over two days if not busy but at my discretion)...find out what each childs regualr hours are and set contract at that, or if variable work out what a normal week is and set it at that as minimum.

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 30/07/2007 16:08

Thank you everyone - Have just heard from mum saying that she HAS got the day off tomorrow, i sis say to her are you sure you dont want me to have her as it has been paid and she said no, not to worry!
