Part time Nanny Housekeeper

Underparmummy · 09/07/2019 20:02

I am looking for someone to come to my house in the afternoon and do cleaning/laundry and then do a school pick up and then cook tea for three kids. Does anyone have any idea where I could even start to look for someone looking for something like that?! Is it even a job role?!

If they could be flexible around extra hours/emergencies then that would be amazing but I do understand that is even harder to find!!

TIA

I think you are looking for a parent!

Just pay a cleaner to do your wash and clean and hire a nanny for the dc.

Bythebeach · 09/07/2019 20:05

I think this is really difficult to find. Afternoons can sometimes suit students.

Au pair?

ZenNudist · 09/07/2019 20:06

Meal service for the food. Or a cook if youre loaded.

Moonflower12 · 09/07/2019 20:07

Try an advert in 'The Lady'. They have adverts for similar roles. They might be online now too.

Underparmummy · 09/07/2019 20:14

Ahh, what a lovely definition of parenting that is.

I have thought about au pairs but we don't have a spare room and I think that is a major part of the deal? Are there other types of options for board?

Thanks muchly moonflower will have a google, not London though...

This will be tricky. Is there a reason why you'd want one person not two?

ImposterSyndrome101 · 09/07/2019 20:23

@Underparmummy student here and that sounds like an ideal job to me. It's easier than what I do at home with my families kids on a day to day basis.

ilikepurple · 09/07/2019 20:34

@Underparmummy what's your location? I do something very similar!

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 09/07/2019 20:35

Advertise on childcare.co.uk. We have a part time nanny who we found through that website. The kids' laundry and tidying/cleaning the kids' rooms etc is very commonly part of a nanny's duties. Ours offers to do supermarket shopping, cleaning etc which I've foolishly declined so far.

I would definitely focus on finding the right childcare, and if they are amenable to adding on other chores that's a bonus. You might find you have to pay quite a bit more per hour for a part time nanny though, so you might end up better off getting a separate cleaner.

Summertimeatthebeach · 09/07/2019 20:40

I had a nanny /cleaner /ironer job via Care.co.uk
Did drop offs /pick ups, housework +ironed.
Win win!

TellerTuesday4EVA · 09/07/2019 20:43

I would post on your local Facebook page, I don't think you'd struggle to find someone at all.

Underparmummy · 09/07/2019 20:55

Thanks everyone! We are south coast...

I looked for a part time housekeeper on care.com but had a couple of really bad interviews and got a bit disheartened.

Hadn't really thought about two people. That would be shorter hours which I thought would be unattractive...

If you've got a college that has childcare course, try putting up a notice there (if term hasn't ended). I know people who have had great post-school care this way.

Pipandmum · 09/07/2019 21:01

Sound like what I would call a ‘mothers help’.

Sooverthemill · 09/07/2019 21:03

We've done this twice and I know others who have. Did a postcard advert in local shop asking for someone to pick up kids, give them tea, take them to the park and do minor household tasks eg ironing, putting a wash on. We had a SAHM who asked if she could bring her child along ( yes) and another time someone whose kids had left home and wanted a bit of work. This was a while ago but we paid £100 a week ( last did this 2011). It worked brilliantly for us and those who we knew too. Both have stayed family friends. You must get references

Esto · 09/07/2019 21:05

We've tried care.com, childcare.co.uk and local college and still really struggled to find the right person. Very few candidates are able to clean properly to a professional standard and do decent childcare.

To be honest I did this job when I was younger and managed it but I'm really struggling now to find someone.

Sooverthemill · 09/07/2019 21:06

The £100 pw was for 3 hours a day

saywhatwhatnow · 09/07/2019 21:08

I do this, I'm a nanny-housekeeper and I take my own child with me. That's the compromise for my lovely employer, she did struggle to get someone 'reliable' to fill the role. We are flexible around each other, I do my housekeeping hours as and when I want each week and the childcare hours are generally fixed. I will do extra childcare in the holidays, or if they are poorly for example as long as I can bring my DC.

Are you in Hampshire op?

ThisMustBeMyDream · 09/07/2019 21:09

I have this arrangement with a nanny/housekeeper. I advertised on local fb groups, and through the job finder website (government one). Fb was much better for responses.

Underparmummy · 10/07/2019 08:48

saywhatwhatnow - near to hampshire, next county along!

This is exactly the job I'm looking for. If only you were up north. Try childcare.co.uk or ask around

Esto · 10/07/2019 14:59

Where up north cakesandphoto?

cakesandphotos · 10/07/2019 15:37

@Esto Northumberland

Undercoverdetective · 10/07/2019 15:47

It's usually harder to fill because there aren't enough hours. A lot of nannies will do light housekeeping ( not deep cleaning but dishwasher, laundry, cook, tea, tidy round). Making it full time hours or letting someone bring their own child opens the pool of candidates a bit wider. Can you add in a few household PA duties to make some more hours. Agencies like tinies, maternity mum, nightnannies are helpful.
