Do you pay AP for holidays?

We have a summer AP for 6 weeks and so far things are going really well - but it's just the first week so I know things can change!

Anyway, next week DH and I are going away for a long weekend and DC are going to their grandparents and AP is going to her sisters. I wondered if I should pay her for the time we're going to be away - she knew about it before she came.

I have worked out that although she'll be here for 6 weeks, she'll be working 24 out of the 30 weekdays so it makes the difference of a week.

She arrived on a Fri - started work on Mon. Goes home on a Fri so not working that day. And is off on Thurs, Fri, Mon, Tues while we are away.

Should mention that we pay her £60 a week in Lancashire.

What did you put in her contract?

chicaguapa · 28/07/2007 07:54

We don't have a contract as it is just for 6 weeks. Before she came I sent her details of what was required of her etc plus when we are away and that she can arrange to go and stay with her sister then. But we didn't mention whether she would be paid for then.

She has been lovely so far and is happy to stay and play with DC when I home from work. So maybe we should just pay her for a full 6 weeks - for the sake of £60!!

I would after all it is only £60 to you but it will make all the difference to her. You never know you might get home to find the whole house has been cleaned as a thank you!

VirtualStranger · 28/07/2007 08:33

yes we do pay when we go away. The ap still needs pocket money. I don't pay if the ap goes away though. I also leave some money for food for her.

VirtualStranger · 28/07/2007 08:34

(and we do leave a list of things to do while we are away - nothing too arduous, but things like the ironing and making sure the house is clean for when we come back).

pyjamaqueen · 28/07/2007 09:10

Yes, I think you must still pay her. You could leave her things to do though, eg cleaning the insides of all the windows or something?

chicaguapa · 28/07/2007 10:42

But she's going away to stay at her sister's so she can't do anything at home for us.

i think you should just pay her.

as she is with you for 6 weeks she will have acrrued some paid holiday anyway

goldenoldie · 29/07/2007 17:49

if you have a 6 week contract or agreement, then you are duty bound to pay her for 6 weeks, unless you agreed otherwise with her in advance.
