Leaving my nanny job

I have decided to leave my job as a nanny for several reasonable. I'm feeling very conflicted as I've been with the family for 3 years, single the youngest were 10 months old. How do I tell them I'm leaving? I want to give them notice but equally I want to leave ASAP so I don't want to agree to work for them until they find a replacement. Also I'm still owed holiday from when I was on maternity leave, what is the deal with that? Do I have to write it off? Any advice welcome, I'm feeling very strange about it all

You have to work your notice period unless they agree to waive it. What does your contract say about notice?

You can either take the annual leave (so that effectively makes your last day sooner) or they can pay you for those days of unused leave.

I need to dig out my contract, I only got it once I'd been with then 2 years

I used up some of my leave by only working one day a week for a couple of months. I suggested they pay it instead and that didn't go down well so I'm not looking forward to that conversation

Work out how much holiday you are owed. Look at your contract and see how much notice you need to give. Decide whether you want to use your remaining annual leave as notice or whether you would accept that it is paid instead.

Write a formal letter giving notice. Please accept this letter as confirmation that I would like to give notice with immediate effect. My contractual notice period is x month (s), so my last working day will be x. From my records, I am due Y days holiday, calculation provided and with your agreement, I would like to take this from x date to y date. If this is not convenient for you, I will accept payment for holiday owed along with my final pay.

Hand the letter over with an explanation as to why you are leaving if you feel that is appropriate.

Good luck.

I have my notice last week. And to be honest I totally forgot about holiday, I was so nervous about letting them down. It's something I need to broach with her still, I'm not sure how much I'm owed

Payroll will work out what holiday you are owed if your employer tells them how many days this holiday year have been taken.
Holiday owed from whilst being on maternity is another matter as some may have built up in a previous holiday year. When you returned to work delaying the physical return by a couple of weeks is often what happens to use up some of the holiday that built up.

I didn't take any at the start or end, they needed me back. I took a few days at the start of this year and the rest is owed
