Looking at childminders - a bit clueless!

So I'm starting back at work soon after mat leave. I have a child who is at school and my baby who will be nearly 1.
It will be mornings but is 6:30am too early to expect someone to arrive at my house?
Would they come to our house or would we be expected to drop off at their house?
What's the going hourly rate in the north of England?
Would i be able to ask a bit of housework of them or is that a different job title?

Thanks!

Have a look here for information about different types of childcare.

A nanny will come to your house, and will not usually do housework, a childminder cares for children at her house and is registered and regulated.

A childminder provides childcare at their home for children from several families, they do not come to your home.

If you want care at your home then you are looking for a nanny. Some nannies will do some light housework, in particular things to do directly with the children such as children's laundry and general tidying.

A nanny/housekeeper role is that of a nanny which does a lot more housework. Some of their day would be solely doing housework, so that is unlikely given the age of your children. Your 1 year old may well sleep at lunchtime for a while some days but not others... I care for a 19 month old who will sometimes nap for a couple of hours and other times I'm lucky if it's 40 minutes.

If you are in the Newcastle area then Sarah at Kids Deserve The Best nanny agency may be able to give you a realistic idea of nanny wages in the area.

For a registered childminder, your local Family Information Service may be able to give an idea of the average childminding fees... though their data is not always very well updated and every childminder will charge whatever they decide to charge.
