one of my mindees is changing his nursery sessions to extended mornings and i have told mum i'm not willing to take him to nursery(not enough time/too far) but am happy to collect - she's going to arrange an alternitive - i won't be able to fill his place as he comes all year round and is not five for 6 months - do you think it is fair enough to charge for his place till he starts proper school or is he actually counted as rising five if he's at nursery for 22+hours per week ? surely it's up to you and the mum. If you can't fill the hours he's at nursery but could take on a kid that was with you full-time if you didn;t have him, then you need to explain that to her. and then negotiate. are you willing to sacrifice a certain amount for the continuity of keeping him (I assume it's less hassle/risk than finding a new mindee)? in which case would you be willing to compromise and charge say half for the hours he's not there?

i'm pretty sure that i saw one of the childminders on the vacancy thread say that the circumstances you described he would be rising 5 under OFSTED guidelines

agree with the other too but are you dropping him off in morning then picking him up after his sessions?, if yes then yes you should still charge as you are there beofe and after care..if you are only picking him up, i would say no to charging full day as you do not have responsability of him through morning.

no i won't be taking him but collecting after lunch so he will be 5 hours at nursery - the thing is i cannot fill his place as he comes to me all year round so will need me in school holidays and teacher training day etc - he starts proper school in Jan so it'll be all change again then i would only charge for after school and holidays then

If your not taking him then I dont think the parent would expect to pay you the 5 hours as technically hes at school albeit part time settling in period. If its too far to take him, are you going to be able to fetch him when he does start full time? If not, then let the parent know so she has plenty of time to make alternative arrangements and you can advertise the space.

If I wasn't taking him then I wouldn't charge full but if you explain to his Mum then maybe you could negotiate a lower rate for his nursery hours with her.

One of my mindees is starting nursery in Sept. As his Mum will take him in the morning I said I'd only charge from when I collect him. If she has to work early and I take him to nursery they will be charged for the hours he's at nursery.

if you are only picking him up then but he needs place through hols, you would sort out some kind of retainer for the 5 hours you cant cover to keep it available to him?

i'm going to chat with mum this week - i will try and get paid for it as she will still get childcare element paid.

happy m o 1 - it's not a problem picking him up(one hour round trip) but mum is v.often late so i don't wan't to be bringing him late for school everyday !!!!As it wouldn't reflect well on my business practice.

He's a lovely kid so i wouldn't want to lose him but the reduced travelling(walking) will be a godsend to be truthfull so hope me and mum can come to an agreement as it's only for 4 months.
