Will I still be entitled to the 30 hours free childcare?

My son will be starting Nursery in September and both me and my husband work. My husband works full time but I work part time teacher and work has become quite stressful with too many observations, I don't even have a fix class so I was thinking about going into Supply Teaching instead. Do you think I will still be entitled to the 30 hours free childcare if my job isn't permanent?

Yes as long as you still earn enough over each three month period.

Which is £120 a week.

Thank you for getting back to me. With supply teaching you may not always have work each week also no work in the holiday, which means you won't get paid.

I think you would be ok - the self employed have to earn over £120 per week on average each 3 month period - so assuming you can do that (in summer you could do playschemes / nanny etc part time if needed) but also in your first year you are not required to meet the income threshold - so assuming you are going to be self employed supply teacher (rather than via an umbrella employer etc) and / or that you will average over £120 per week in each 3 month period then you would be ok. Might be worth not moving jobs until your son is in nursery then you will also have the 3 month grace period if needed.

Thanks for the advice.
