i have just rang a husband and wife team to say hello and he said his wife was off work at the mo as she had an histracamy (womb taken out)
he said they have an assistant helping out at the mo who has just finished her work experance at a nursery.
dont you do work experence at high school?

Don't think assistants have to be registered, but do need to notify Ofsted that an assistant is being used.
How many children are they caring for? Is husband a childminder in his own right?
As their support childminder, you could advise them to notify ofsted that they have an assistant.

I did a college course in health and social care which involved work experience in schools and nurseries, so not necessarily (sp?) school age!

husband is a cm in his own right they have 6 children under 5 between them normally and 3 after school children so i'm guessing assitant will have 3 under 5 and an after school child

As long as she does no toilteing/nappies and are never left alone with the children it shouldn't be a problem with OFSTED - however it is not thought to be "good practice"

The exclusions are due to being not CRB checked for that setting

I regularily have Work experience people however I do not include them in my staffing numbers

No assistants don't have to be registered, but their details should be sent to Ofsted with a letter stating your intention to employ tham and from what dates including their name/address/dob, and as KM says they must never be in sole charge of any children and must always be supervised.
They must also be over 17yrs old to count as adults in any adult:child ratios.
Ofsted also like to see evidence of a thorough documented interview/taking up of references/induction process.

you are allowed to leave Assistants approved by ofsted for a max of 2 hours with children. this covers things like school runs etc.

p.s. i know of atleast, 6 minders in my area who are allowed 6 under 5s with an assistant.
