Paying for paediatric first aid

I advertised for a nanny with paediatric first aid or willing to do it. Our nanny who is just starting doesn't have a certificate but is keen to do a course. She has found a two day one (which is useful as there are a couple of health conditions (asthma etc) relevant to my kids covered on this longer course). She has offered to pay for half of it, but I'm not sure whether to accept or whether we should pay for the whole thing ourselves.

Thanks.

I'm a nanny - I paid for my first one that lasted 3 years - then if the family I was working for wanted me to keep it going they would usually offer to pay for all of it ..... if it needed updating and I wasn't currently with a family I would pay for it myself

PS. She is not Ofsted Registered, obvs.

You should as you want her to be FA qualified. It was nice of her to offer, but you should insist on paying.

IF you want her to be Ofsted registered you need to make sure it’s accepted by them.

I think I would accept, but reimburse her at the end of her probation period assuming she stays and she hasn't started already.

I always pay for my own first aid course, regardless of whether parents want you to be first aid trained. I think having a first aid qualification is just a professional thing to do and should be expected of all nannies (ofsted reg or not), along with insurance.
I also find it useful outside of work, for example I'm a Sunday school teacher, and also from a point of view of knowing what to do if friends or family (or a stranger for that matter) fall ill or are injured, so I don't have a problem paying for it myself.

Personally I pay for my own as I see it as part of being a professional nanny. So I think it is great that you are offering to pay. Going half's or you paying for all is fine.

Consider what would happen if your nanny left after a short while... would you want them to repay the money? Be very clear about that if that is a condition.

Any professional nanny should keep their first aid updated every 3yrs

Have a dbs and pli

As basics

A nanny should have first aid. She should pay for it. All nannies need it regardless.
