I am struggling to find nanny who is willing to work half 3 to half 6. Hours too short is the common response. Any suggestions on how to get one? thanks

Try care.com or other agency? Advertise locally? It's a very short time so likely to only suit a semi retired person, someone with their own child they will bring etc... I found a lady who was semi retired but even then I paid from 2pm and she did cleaning and laundry.

I have exactly the same challenge. The fact that traffic is bad around those times contributes to the problem because travel time to and from work is longer then. Watching with interest.

As a nanny i can work 12 hour days. Or i can only work 3 hours per day. The cost of getting to work is the same. I have a mortgage and bills to pay. What do i choose?
For such short hours the candidate will have to live very close to you. Otherwise the amount they earn will be very little after travel taken off.
Advertise on your school facebook groups, WhatsApp group, village/town groups.
You are looking for someone maybe retired, student who can afford these hours. Very hard to fill these jobs.

Nanny with their own child - either one who also goes to your dc school, or a nanny with a baby who wants part time hours.

TA at their school who wants to increase their income?

Make the job a nanny/housekeeper role, hours 12.30-6.30, and they do cleaning, laundry, shopping, pet care, meal prep & errands in the afternoon

Would you look at someone with other qualifications? This may suit someone who is currently a local teaching assistant for instance or doing a course.

Could you check at your local college if they have any form of job advertising board?

I assume you are also limiting options because you only want term time?

FluffySocks123 · 17/04/2019 11:12

I work one afternoon - 3:00-6:00 then 1 full day as a nanny.

However, I did use to work 3 afternoons for one family and then 2 full days for the other - this tied around with my gcse college course too.

However, once my course has finished I'll have to stop working afternoons and the family have said I can go for a full day instead

PCohle · 17/04/2019 11:18

Would an au pair work for your family?

llangennith · 17/04/2019 11:31

Maybe a childminder is a better option?

MissSueFlay · 17/04/2019 11:35

Have you tried Koru Kids?
They have a minimum 9 hours a week requirement and specifically place people who want to work limited ours - students and older people.
Not sure if they are just in London

underneaththeash · 17/04/2019 12:48

We found it impossible outside London to get anyone (decent) to work after school and ended up with an au pair.

PinkGlitter123 · 17/04/2019 15:24

I managed to find someone who worked mornings and was looking for afternoon work but I realise how lucky I was in that sense.

SuperDuperJezebel · 18/04/2019 14:20

I work similar hours - 3-6.30 in term time and 8.30-6.30 in school holidays, and I take my DD (2) with me. My salary is averaged out over the year so I get the same each month.

redstapler · 21/04/2019 21:26

You need to pay a very high hourly rate. Could you add on some cleaning hours? Maybe local student who finishes at 3? You won't get a qualified nanny interested, for obvious reasons.

Hk17 · 25/04/2019 18:51

You could try looking on childcare.co.uk

Underparmummy · 09/07/2019 19:58

Stucknoue that's exactly what I am looking for... Could I be cheeky and ask how much you pay and how many hours per week?

Hmmmm2018 · 11/07/2019 12:54

I'm currently having the same struggle, having looked on multiple websites am struggling to get anyone to do after school pick ups three days a week. If I added some dog walking and cleaning would I be more likely to find someone? If I added the dog walking and cleaning where would I look or advertise this? Would having morning school drop off included also help? (I had assumed people wouldn't want to just do the morning drop off as would then have to go home and come back later so have signed up for breakfast club at school).

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/07/2019 15:08

sadly this happens a lot, just not enough hours

extra chores like food shopping/dog walking/cleaning may help to increase the hours

do you need fulltime in holidays

maybe a cm if one picks up from your school

niceupthedanceagain · 13/07/2019 15:28

How much are you willing to pay? We paid £18ph for someone with SEN skills and £13ph for a midday assistant who was adding to her hours.

Hmmmm2018 · 15/07/2019 16:50

Was thinking between 13 and 18 per hour. Not sure about holiday plans, probably would want some full days. We now have one potential so keeping fingers crossed that they will work out!
