Ofsted registration

I applied for ofsted registration at the end of last year. I did my first aid in October and dbs came through beginning of December. Ofsted say they started processing the application at the start of January and it can take 12 weeks. Pretty much every week since the middle of January my boss has been asking me when it's going to be through. I ring every week and check and they're still waiting for my local council to do the social services check. I have no idea how long it's going to take, I have no control over it. Now my boss wants to make a complaint because it's taking so long. She wants to speak to ofsted herself. Is this something she can do? Honestly I'm pretty pissed off that they're putting so much pressure on me over something I can't do anything about. How long can these things take?

She could write to her county Councillor about the lack of resources that social services get, as that is typically where the delay occurs in Ofsted registration.

Ofsted registration times vary, around 6 months is quite typical from a mini survey I did on a nanny facebook page last month.

She could try to complain to Ofsted... procedure to follow is available here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/complaints-about-ofsted
I would suggest she complains on the basis of a procedural matter... so the procedure of Ofsted contacting Social Services and there being no clear timescale of how long Social Services are given respond.

It's really not an Ofsted issue, it's a problem with the time it takes to check Social Services records.

I had a nightmare registering with Ofsted last year. It took well over 12 weeks. I had been registered before so i assumed it would be quicker.
When i finally was registered in June i didnt receive a certificate. I telephoned several times. Calls that were costly as long time waiting on phone and entering different options. Ofsted said they had sent the certificate and wanted to charge me another £35. By this time the family no longer wanted Ofsted Registration so i gave up. Only to receive a certificate out of the blue in January. So 7 months to receive the certificate.
Ofsted are not fit for purpose.
