Early morning childcare

I’m looking at the possibility of a new job. The vast majority of the time I’ll be working from home, but certainly for the first 6 months I’ll have to go into the office once or twice a week. The office is 4 hrs away so I’m looking that I’ll be leaving the house about 5am. My dh works odd shifts and starts work even earlier than that.

I’ve got an 11 yr old dd who starts secondary school this year so, I only really need childcare from 5am to about 8.30. She likes to walk to school With her friends, and dh will be home within an hour if her, so afternoons aren’t really an issue.

Any suggestions on how I find someone who can come and sit in the house for a few hrs?

I've done something like that as a one-off a long time ago. I arrived around 9pm and stayed overnight. Leaving my home at say 4.20am to get somewhere by 5am I didn't feel would happen... too much risk of me sleeping though.

Sounds like you don't really know at the moment how often this will be needed or the actual dates involved. Nearer the time you will know and will probably know several weeks in advance. Finding someone to do it I imagine will be tricky - place adverts and see what happens. Local newsagents/general store if there is one may have postcard ads. Use childcare listing sites like Childcare.co.uk

Consider if having someone stay overnight makes sense - do you have room for them?

Good idea Nanny, and yes we do have somewhere for someone to sleep.

If we can’t sort anything, my dh may be able to reduce his hours on certain days, or even go part time for a while. We wanted to avoid this in case his employer gets a bit pee’d off.

Do you really need childcare. They will prob wake 7/730
And should be capable to make some toast /cereal and leave house at 830 to walk with friends

Call her to make sure up and left house

Or

If a rare occasion can she have a sleepover with a friend she walks to school with

A reliable sixth former might do this for extra cash.

I think in a year or two she could be left st this time, but it just feels wrong to leave her at 5am.

I had a chat with my dh and if we can’t sort a professional then he’s going to talk to his employer about a shorter day on the days I need to be in the office.

If you are near a university, a student might be an option
