Get a list from your local authority Family Information Service. Visit a few and you will probably find someone you feel comfortable with. Ask if you can talk to a couple of their existing parents if you want extra peace of mind.

If there are any local toddler groups, go along and you might see a childminder there working, so you can see what they're like. Alternatively someone else there might be able to give you a recommendation.

Children generally love coming to me. Then they're excited at the end of the day going home. Your baby will be fine. Don't worry.

Hi, I am a childminder, when parents come to see me I show them around my setting and generals have a nice informal chat about myself, themselves the baby, what I do each day etc I show them a my certificates, reference, Ofsted report. If they decide to use me I arrange 2 lots of 2 hours settling in where mum and baby come together and then mum leaves when she leaves ready usually the first one they go off for 30-40 mins and second time leave for 90 mins. It does depend on how many hours and days your little one does for how quickly l
They settle e.g. a baby only coming for one day a week usually takes longer to settle than one doing more hours and days a week. A good childminder will also reassure and let you how your baby has been. I use daily diary’s to record what we have been doing, how a child as slept, eaten, nappy changes etc

Hi well its a complicated matter this one as I will only need a chikdminder once a month reason being I am starting to see mg other children in a centre but am not allowed to take baby in with me there's rules as its a contact centre special arrangement ect courts and I would have to have a childminder have my baby for 4 hours once a month

Ah yes I can see that’s going to be tricky, as a lot childminders offer minimum of hours a day e.g with me it’s 8 hours and do not work weekends. You could try getting an ad hock contract this is were you only pay for the hours used rather than the space ( so you don’t end up paying for 4 days a month instead of 1) but you also have to understand the space may not be there for you when you need it as this way the childminder does not have to keep your space free and could fill it with someone .
