Hi all
My childminder has told me 30 hours free childcare from government runs from first term after 3rd bday until child is 4 and NOT up until they start school? I can't seem to find any info on internet?

They run for 39 weeks a year until your child is of school age. So they stop in July before reception.

I believe it runs until they start reception- as the reception hours count as your 30 hours in effect. If you defer reception you receive it until they start year one.

Great thanks for the replies - Also I can split the hours between pre schools and childminder so 15 hours each?

You can. I am doing that from September- 15 hours to the school nursery and 15 hours to the childminder

But you have to let them both know that’s what you’re doing so one provider doesn’t apply the full 30 hours to them

The funding is for 38 weeks of the year but can be stretched up until 31st August
It’s 1140 hours from September 1st to 31st August

Also if you defer they last until the term after your child turns five.

30 hours is available and runs in line with school term times. From Sept-mid july Runs out just before they start foundation year .

cattoddler just wanted to point out your statement just to avoid any confusion. If someone chooses to defer their child to start school a year later, then it should be noted that they will be entering reception still (not year 1, as per your statement)
Just don't want people being told this by their LA as they are allowed to start in reception!

In my borough it runs until they start in reception but only if they start reception after head count week (this varies borough to borough in mine its around the 15th of September) If a child starts Into school reception or nursery on the week of head count the school can claim from the 1st of September even though they have supplied no childcare this is why schools will all get children in for head count week. The parent has to pay childcare from the 1st to the day they start school (includes 3 year olds going into nursery).
