Hi, please can somebody let me know what the going hourly rate is for a live-out Nanny/Childminder of twins in Wandsworth, SW18? Thank you!

It would be for 11 hours per day, 4 days per week and I would require them to be Ofsted registered as I want to be able to claim some tax-free childcare benefit.

First of all, there is a difference between the two.

A child minder has your children and other children in his/her home and due to that they are able to charge less per child. They are self-employed and set their own hours, so you would have to find one who can accommodate your hours. You drop them off and pick them up each day.

A nanny comes to your home, and charges a higher hourly rate. You are their employer, and set their hours.

The current hourly rate for a nanny would be £14/15 gross ph (£11/12 net).

Can't advise as well on childminder rates, but I would think between £6-8 gross ph, PER CHILD. They may do a discount for a sibling.

Oh forgot to address the Ofsted registration: all Childminders are Ofsted registered, it's required by law. They accept the vouchers/tax free scheme.

Nannies can be registered. It's completely voluntary, and as it's expensive for a nanny to become registered (around £300) not all opt for it. You can put in your ad that you are looking for a registered nanny.

If you meet with a nanny the you like and they aren't registered, you can offer to pay towards it (typically cost of registration plus the course they need to qualify, and they can pay for DBS, first aid and insurance) as Ofsted registration really only benefits the parent and has no benefit to the nanny whatsoever.

£15 gross for a nanny would be my guess, but it is just a guess. Advertise and state the salary and see if you get much interest.

If you need someone Ofsted registered, state that clearly in the advert. Registration can take 6 months, so you don't really want someone who is not registered as you could not benefit from your Tax-Free Childcare account until they have become registered.
