Nanny Bonus

I am budgeting our expenses for 2019 and would like to know what a professional nanny with formal training would be paid as an annual bonus at the end of the year? I have seen 1-2 weeks salary. Is this accurate? Many thanks!

As a nanny, there is no normal.

I have been given
• A cuddly toy and regifted box of chocolates.
• A camera.
• Camera equipment (Ex MB, runs her own photographers agency and so had the items available! But she knew I was a keen photographer so very welcome)
• Various spa treatments of various amounts.
• A bunch of flowers, pretty but not expensive!
• A winter coat (I don’t feel the cold and only own a ski jacket, I made her feel cold so bought me a coat! I never wore it and my dad has it, I left them in 1991!)
• 3 very nice handbags (separate years)
• A kitchenaid mixer in Boysenberry (I adore it!)

But mainly bonus’. From a weeks net wage up to a months gross wage.

The ones I liked the best? The ones that showed that they knew me and thought about what I would like. The cameras/equipment (different employers) the kitchenaid - MB asked my friend what colour mixer I would like. The handbags - all MB’s took notice of the type of bag I liked and bought similar (always with a gift receipt just in case, I didn’t use them)

Thank you Caillard. I would like to give a yearly cash bonus as an incentive. Two to a four weeks’ salary seems fair.

Regarding salary increases, would you expect your salary to increase every year, or at what interval?

Many thanks again!

Oh! And an engagement ring!! Long story short, widower Dad, worked for him 4 years when he gave me the ring for Christmas! I had no idea, the children ripped open the present before I read the label that said ‘Daddy would like you to be our mummy, will you marry him?’ Worked for him for another 2 years after. Found out about 3 years after I left and popped round to see the children but they were late home and ex-DB was rather drunk and varnishing the skirting boards, I sat on the loot and helped him, chatting away when he told me that things could have been so much different if I had said yes, I had no idea what he was talking about so he told me! The children are now in their mid 30’s and we are still close (I’m godmother to their children)

I have yearly pay rise, at least in line with inflation, in my contract on the anniversary of start date.

I have got between 2.5% and 20% (just one family but each year for 3 years)

ReturnfromtheStars · 23/02/2019 01:32

Oh I love your story Callaird, would you have said yes if you'd known he asked?

Callaird · 23/02/2019 23:57

@ReturnfromtheStars I probably would have said yes at the time, I totally adored the boys (still do!), out of 9 families, this was my favourite position. But it would have been for all the wrong reasons. I was 24, he was 34, I was clubbing all weekend and trying to sober up on Sunday, he liked a port and lemonade on a Saturday evening! He was a lovely man and I liked him a lot but he was my boss (and a grown up!!) We got on really well, we were practically a family.

A week or two salary is always appreciated. What I got at Xmas from all of my families

You sound a lovely boss

Zebedee88 · 25/02/2019 21:22

I've been with the family for 10 years, I usually get a small Christmas bonus and most years I get a pay rise. This is usually in the 3 to 5% rise.

CarrieBlu · 25/02/2019 21:28

I used to get a month’s salary.

SW7mum · 01/03/2019 07:21

Thanks Caillard. Are you a Norland or otherwise formally trained nanny?
