Au Pairs After Brexit

So what's going to happen? Will they need a visa to come in? What will happen to the ones already working

OP posts:

I'm more worried that Brexit will take away my children's opportunities to just rock up in Europe and get an au-pair job.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 22/02/2019 12:44

That’s helpful Kenn, how dare someone have different concerns than yours 🙄

I don’t know OP - I guess it depends whether the individual countries au-pair agreements with the UK were signed before the EU or just came as part of a parcel of EU membership.

Farahilda · 22/02/2019 13:05

Those already in the country should be able to continue (just like other categories resident in UK can expect to remain, using the (now free) registration process.

After that, EU countries wil, need to be added to the Tier 5 visa list (au pairs from non-EU) or a new arrangement devised. Adding to existing au pair visa regime strikes me as quickest and most straightforward.

Ilovecrumpets · 24/02/2019 22:40

Hi @Farahilda could I ask why you mean by using the registration process? Do you mean the au pairs will need to register ( just wondering as they are now ‘workers’)? Many thanks!

Ilovecrumpets · 24/02/2019 22:41

Should have read not workers

underneaththeash · 25/02/2019 17:44

Has everyone signed?

Pre free movement of people in the EU there used to be a specific au pairing visa for Europeans to get into the UK I think? I think with specific requirements for hours worked, pocket money amount etc. This may well be what lies ahead. For now, we're just pressing ahead with recruiting and keeping fingers crossed there aren't any major issues.

I need an au pair - Can anyone suggest where to look for one?

viktoria · 28/02/2019 18:35

Rebecca, we always use aupairworld

coffeeagogo · 28/02/2019 18:36

2nd Aupair world - stay away from agencies as the are £££ for absolutely no benefit

seafoodudon · 28/02/2019 19:19

Agree re au pair world but be warned that it's slow going at the moment (you'll see from my other thread that my family is a handful but our neighbours who only have two and are offering a fab package are really struggling too).
