What do you look for in a nanny

I'm currently studying childcare at college and am thinking about becoming a nanny. I just want a brief idea of what everyone looks for, I'm kind caring and patient and I love working with children. I will have a level 3 diploma in childcare and education and I have passed all the basic GCSE's Maths, English and Science. Is there any other qualifications and things you would look for just to give me an idea please.

Thank you Smile

Your qualifications sound fine - you will probably need a good child first aid qualification too. Do you have practical experience baby sitting / holiday nannying. I look for common sense / calmness / awareness of child safety first and foremost. Then a sense they will get on well with the children and with us. Then that they can plan fun / appropriate activities and get everywhere they need to on time.

Enjoying arts and crafts, music and singing- can you play a piano? Speak another language?

Loving and caring, trustworthy and honest. The rest is just detail.

Do you have a driving license?

I have a nanny.

Common sense, sense of humour, experience, calm demeanour, all qualifications up to date.

It's more than an employer/employee relationship, they become part of your family and your children really love them, so it's more about who you click with in my opinion!

I love our nanny, she's worth her weight in gold. We have similar parenting outlooks, and are on the same team discipline-wise. We also have the occasional glass of wine and gossip together which may not be for everyone, but we have a very smooth working relationship which makes everything very easy.

Yes, above all else someone who is reliable, and if they say they will do something, actually does it.

But apart from that- someone who has good knowledge of child behaviour. Even something like a mindfulness for educators qualification like MISP do would be impressive.

100% some sort of first aid qualification. That to me is more important than anything else.

Your other qualifications sound great

I look for the soft skills,ie, are you happy to be told what to do, can you put on the professional face when you arent feeling it. I also ask questions like what activities would you do in school hols (to guage if they expect/ are used to having a large budget).
