Does anyone know what hours nanny's work?

Do they work a few hours on a morning, then some in after noon or is it all in one? Just getting a little confused as most children will / should be at school during the day.

It's up to you and your nanny to agree on.

Anything is possible. Personally I have not had jobs start before 6.30am.

Many nannies would not in my view consider a job which was split hours, so some hours in the morning and then some hours in the afternoon. Sometimes you can find someone to do before/after school care but I see lots of parents looking for that and I don't hear of many nannies who do it. Those that do it, they will often be doing a lot more hours during school holidays so that their salary is bumped up.

Whatever happens it has to be financially viable for everyone concerned. So a nanny needing a full-time salary would not do a before/after school job. However a nanny who is only needing to work part-time may well consider a before/after school job if it is very local to them.

I would focus your hunt for a nanny very local, as then you have more chance of finding someone who would do before/after school care as their journey time to/from place of work is much shorter.

It's not necessarily true that nannies won't do split hours. I am a nanny who works full time, doing wraparound care for two children. I work 2 hours in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. I love it because I get the day to myself with my baby and then he comes to work with me. But it does mean late nights, only downside.

It is a individual decision to make. Only you and your family can make that decision. It’s best to concentrate on the local area. I started my search by making a list of names. Then I started calling and emailing childcare providers.
It must fit in with your schedule. Trust your gut feeling. My childcare provider only works part time in accordance with my request. My main provider of childcare is my partner. He works at home.
