Childminder help!

Hi,

I don’t know if anyone has been in a similar situation or if anyone can help or has any suggestions?

I only started back at work last month, full time, & our CM has DS (11 months old) 4 days a week & my friend/grandparents help me with the other day (alternate weeks).

Since he’s been there we’ve not had a full week due to sickness of CMs children on week 1 & week 2. Week 3 DS was unwell & was sent home. This week is week 4 & CM has said all he has done for the last 2 days is cry & scream uncontrollably. Nothing will settle him, not even cuddles. I’ve had photos & videos of him crying. It’s upsetting to see he’s so distraught.

He’s not like this at home nor for anyone else who has him. He’s constantly babbling & singing away. He quite happily plays by himself. On occasion he can get upset if we leave the room but it’s not all the time.

I don’t know if it’s just down to him not being settled due to the lack of consistency due to sickness or if he has separation anxiety. Out of a possible 17 days he’s only been there 10.

I’m not sure what to do, as I say it’s so upsetting to see & hear he’s been like that but is fine for others. Perhaps we need to give him more time to settle. What sort of time would scale would you give?

Does anyone have experience with a similar situation? Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you Smile

Every child is different I'm affraid OP. I've had babies that take a long time to settle, I have 2 just now that really don't like being out down but I really can't carry th around all day because I have other kids to look after. I would never send the parents videos or pictures of them crying, there is no good in that. I will let them know at the end of the day if they have been upset.
Could it be an ear infection? That happens a lot after a cold and can out kids in a really bad mood.
As for the attendance it's not great for him to have not done a full week yet, I have never had to do that bit I suppose it can't be helped if the kids are sick. I still give parents the option to bring their kids if mine are ill, sometimes it's just not possible for them to make alternative arrangements at short notice, but every childminder is different.

I would probably give it a bit longer for him to settle and to see if the cm takes anymore time off, but if you are really unhappy it might be worth looking for someone else .

Hi there I go swimming on Wednesday at St George’s park (Burton on Trent) with my two boys Oscar 3 Harley 19 months.
It’s with water babies. So it’s term time only.

I can not believe how hard it is to try and find childcare to help me sit pool side with Oscar or Harley while I’m in the pool with either one of them.

Mags... Cant u put both of them in?

Mags696 · 28/02/2019 18:19

No it’s swimming lessons.
But the law now states that 1 adult can’t go in a pool with anymore than 1 child under 4 or 5 can’t remember. Which totally rules me out taking my boys swimming as a single mum xx

I’m not sure why you’re surprised that no one wants to do this.

Youeed help for, what, one hour a week, term time only? So you’re offering 39 hours employment over the year. Alternatively they could do 50+ hours, all year round, for several families.

I assume you’re not offering to pay them a full time wage, so I have to say it’s an absolute no-brainier.

as far as I know there is no such law, just what individual pools choose to have as rules

I take my children swimming occasionally (age 2 & 3) and as long as one has a buoyancy aid there's never been a problem. I carry the youngest and the older one has arm bands but I obviously stay close by.

We also have to have 1 adult to 1 under 5, they wont sell you a ticket if you are trying to take 2 in.
