We are looking for a nanny for Sept when dd1 starts school. The nanny we offered the job to dropped out ( better offer - long story) and we are still looking.

Dds CM ( fantastic ) will not be able to childmind them at her house in Sept as too far from school. She has suggested that she could come to work for us as a nanny in our own home.

This would be marvellous obviously, and she seems to have thought it through. There are other personal reasons that she may wish to give up childminding full time. I am a bit concerned that it would be a big change for her , moving from being an independent CM to an employed nanny tho.

Is it possible for her to stay registered as CM and look after dds at our house? Or would it be easier for her to be employed by us as a regular nanny? Anyone any experience of this?

In theory, she can notify Ofsted (I am making the assumption you are in England) that the premises at which she childminds is changing. Ofsted would then handle it similar to how they do for childminders moving house. However, that may create some issues - such as she would have to (in theory) permit other families to use the childminding facility at your home. Then you have expenses such as heating/lighting to name two which can be tricky to factor in.

I'd say it's hassle and probably not worth doing. She could register with Ofsted under the Ofsted Childcare Register, if you wanted to use childcare vouchers or tax credits, but she would be your employee.

I feel it would be easier for her to be employed by you, as she would be your nanny. She could decide to continue paying childminder registration (for when she works at own home) but not actually childmind while she decides over a longer period if she wants to give up childminding completely.
