Hi everyone,

We are urgently looking for an experienced Ofsted registered childminder in the Borehamwood / Radlett / Canons Park or Stanmore areas of North London for our two and a half year old daughter. This would be for three to four days per week from 08:00 till 18:00.

If you are based in any of these areas and have capacity, recommendations, Ofsted report etc please get in touch asap!

Many thanks,

Ben

As per the notice at the top of this page, this is not the place to advertise. Use your local MN board, as advised. But be aware that still means you could attract absolute anyone with access to an open internet site.

The safest thing to do is to contact your county/local authority children's services department. They are obliged to keep a database of current registered childcare providers who have been checked as suitable.

Or use childcare.co.uk which is generally safer than an open site as full members have to pay a subscription, and will often have uploaded their documents and bona fide credentials.

Apologies if I have not followed protocol, this is the first time I have used Mumsnet in years. We have contacted all appropriate childminders listed on our local authority page but have not joined childcare.co.uk due to the fact lots of childminders have not supplied their supporting docs and the membership fee for parents is very steep.

You can contact childcare providers on childcare.co.uk so long as one party has paid the full membership subscription (i.e. it doesn’t have to be the parents who pay.) TBH, I don’t know why more childcare providers don’t pay to join, as it’s worth the fee to access lots of online training, documents, monthly magazine, and so on.

Not everyone uploads documents, as they could conceivably be printed off and used fraudulently. But do be sure to ask to see originals when you visit a childcare provider. You’d be staggered at how many parents don’t do this, but merely assume someone is registered and checked for suitability merely because they say they are.

Op, the membership fee for childcare.co.uk is a mere drop in the ocean compared to childcare costs.

Also, uploading docs isn’t a problem, just view when you visit them. I don’t upload mine, they are private and I can’t any to be sure I am the only one with a copy of them. Childcare.co.uk aren’t my employer so have no reason to hold them on file.

Perhaps to you, everyone’s circumstances are different

Was that in reference to membership fee?

Honestly, i agree. I also find it expensive as a childminder to pay membership but I do have it. This means parents can contact me for free too. You should try and message some. If they don’t have it you can’t, but a lot will.

IMHO the childcare.co.uk fee is excessive when you consider the context. Most people pay twice as much to watch tv. Surely finding good childcare has to be more important than tv?
