I don’t know if I have an option or not but recently started back at work and going through consultation and work want us to start work at 7am two days a week. I could only do a Friday at 7am as my husband doesn’t work that day and has our daughter 11 months old. On the other days I have to drop at nursery at 8am so can’t get to work for 7. So all agreed I’d just do Fridays. Except now my husband has a much better job offer more money better hours but it means Friday working so half day at nursery and he starts at 6. So I’d have to do drop off at nursery. Any ideas how I can juggle this? Is there anyone who would have a child to look after from 6.30am?? Work is 30 mins drive.

I thought about asking the nursery but thought unlikely they could help.

I'd start by asking at the nursery as they may have a member of staff who can get to your house for 6.30, get your child up & ready for nursery and then they'll both go to Nursery. That would mean you wouldn't have to get your child ready for nursery yourself which would make it a bit more relaxing for you.
Otherwise, are there any cm near you who could either have your child from 6.30 until you collect them or have your child from 6.30 and then drop off at nursery.
One thing I've realised with childcare is that you can usually find someone to cover the hours you need provided you are creative enough with your solutions.

Are you asking random people on the internet if they know anyone who might look after your child from 6.30am?!

Of course early starts are possible in some situations but it’s very much dependent on individual situations. Childminders would be the obvious option.

You’d be better off asking this question locally so you can see what options are available? I’d start with googling or asking on local Fb pages.

Ha ha no of course not random people, just any ideas. I was wondering whether childminders would work from this time but can you really ask a childminder to drop at nursery.? Maybe I should use a childminder for all the childcare and move her out of nursery? Especially as my husband could pick up by 3 so less hours.

Thank you mustdrinkwaternotwine. That’s a really positive response and has made me think it might be possible!

Thought maybe the mix of childminder and nursery might be confusing but perhaps not.

Better job, is it enough to have a nanny some days instead of nursery?

I care for a child who has been going to nursery a couple of days a week and has me as her nanny one day per week, does not seem to bother her (though I have cared for her since she was 4 weeks old so that might be a factor).
Certainly two different forms of childcare can work. Not sure how many childminders would take a just turning 1 year old and drop them off at nursery... expect a lot would expect to care for your child all day.

Local sixth former if they could do it and then get to school/college? I did that for two years to cover one early start, very similar situation.

As has been said, nursery staff (though some don't allow it as their staff then get poached to be nannies).

Childcare.co.uk would be a good place to look

Ask nursery, local uni students, etc

Change your plans and look for a childminder as many start at 7 or earlier, are inspected and registered to the same standards, suitability checked in the same way offer the same activities and baby will e in a lower ratio with a consistent adult who can see you through all childcare needs to the end of Primary school or beyond.

Thank you. Amazingly I’ve found someone who used to work at the nursery but now does nannying. And she can do some work around that and has the capacity to start at 6.30 and drop off at nursery! Very pleased. Thanks for all your help.
