DD not sleeping at childminders

My dd has been in a good routine of two daytime naps since the age of six months. She is now 12 mths and started at childminder three weeks ago when I went back to work. The first week she slept fine there, but the second week she would not settle for the morning nap and slept for only 30-45 minutes at the afternoon one (normally has 1.5 to 2 hours). This has continued this week. She seems very happy with the childminder so I think it's more because she's excited and doesn't want to miss anything that because she's not relaxed. She is still sleeping fine at night, but I'm worried that she will suffer from not getting enough sleep in the daytime - she is still awfully small to be sleeping so little in the day. What do you think?

My ds is 12.5 months, has been at nursery for 3 weeks, and has done exactly the same thing this past week - gone from two longer naps, morning and afternoon, to one short one after lunch. Like you, I assumed it was just the excitement and stimulation of being at nursery. He does seem fine, still sleeping well at night and not over-tired, so maybe it's just the age they are at.

I had a mindee start with me when she was 12 months and was told that she slept through every day from 10:30 till 12:30!!! Have only JUST managed to continue that pattern here (she's now 15 months).

I think that with two others just a little older than her here, she was just too interested in what was going on and didn't want to miss anything!

She now sleeps in travel cot upstairs for upto a couple of hours each day, which is bliss, as she was very hard work when going without her nap!

Wouldn't worry about it too much, so long as she is happy!

Where is she sleeping at the childminders? In a travel cot in a room on her own?

I had a mindee once who slept for exactly 7 1/2 minutes total in the 9 hours I had him. he continued that pattern from the age of 4 months (when he started with me) until the age of 21 months, when he started walking.

Dont know about any other CM's but I usually find that the 1st week, children come in no tears sleep as usual, 2nd week it all goes to pot (the novelty has wornoff ) then from the third week things settle down into usual routine. (not always tho!

mrs scavo - yes, she is in travel cot in room on own.
Thanks for all the responses - seems it is fairly normal then and hopefully she will settle down soon
