ok, I have three children 6 , 4 and 2 years. Last year through the summer holidays I had a mothers help a lovely young lady from ds2 nursery, had just done 1 year in nursery before her pgce. She worked for me one day a week, generally just helping me when we had days out to theme parks, zoo's etc. This year she is going away travelling for a year But, there is a nanny at school who is due to leave her job as all the children will be at school from september and the family does not need her through the hols.

Now, I know she hasnt got anything lined up as one of the other nannys approached me on her behalf to see if I was looking for anyone during the summer.

What is the going rate for this type of thing, will she tell me, or do I offer a rate???

Thank you

You could either suggest a rate, or see if she tells you how much she wants.

Anywhere from £7 to £10 per hour gross could easily be a rate, possibly even higher.

Try comparing with other local work rates if you can... for example, in my area (Surrey/Berkshire) a temp agency pays staff £8 per hour gross, on a 0 hour contract - thus staff work as and when they like, if work is available. Therefore if the nanny was in my area, they could in theory get £80+ per day working for a nursery temp agency.

thanks nannynick, so that would be £80 gross. See, this is the thing I need to clarify. My lovely young lady gets cash in hand with university etc. not a nanny - you get the picture.

So, do I even for one day a week, have to do ni and tax or does she take care of it if I pay her gross
