Part time of WFH?

If you had a long commute into work which meant being out of the house from 7.30am- 7pm and were given the following two options which would you prefer:

  1. Work from home up to 3 times a week
  2. Work 4 days a week

Childcare would most likely be a Nanny. So either the nanny’s hours are reduced on the days when you work from home (9am-5pm) or she doesn’t work on a Friday.

Thanks

Is working from home realistic? It sounds good but you need somewhere you can call an office and be self contained. Sound from children travels, so can you isolate yourself from that?

Some nannies do not like parents working from home. Look at other mumsnet threads about that. It can work but it can put applicants off.

Nannies can like working long days rather than shorter days. I far prefer a 7:30am start than a 9am start as the traffic is so much less. So 4 long days would appeal to me.

Thanks. We have a garden office so working from home shouldn’t be an issue.

I was slightly favouring the working from home option as it would give me more regular contact with DC otherwise potentially might not see him for 4 day.

I do realise that some nannies don’t like parents working from home but to be honest I’m less concerned about what suits the nanny as much as what would be better for DC. Maybe a bit naive but I hope once we have made a decision we can find someone who is willing to work with whatever works for us. Appreciate though that the main disadvantage would be that it would probably limit our options in terms of nannies, but I’m hoping by not too much. I suppose we will see!

About to become a first time parent soon so keen to hear what other parents would chose if they had both options.
