Gave notice to some parents this week who have sent their child to me twice with an eye infection then when I asked them to get it treated I was told I was unhelpful. and a load of other things to boot.. The fact was i had to cancel all my other kids and put their parents out because of it and lose business. Anyway she is giving me such a hard time now and I have to look after her children for 4 weeks. i think they are wonderful her children but she is a nightmare!!

Hi there,
I'm a bit confused - why did you cnacel your other children for this one with an eye infection?

I would have sent him home - but then I am quite strict if it is something very infectious.

Think you are probably right if you don't get on with the mother to give noice, but I don't envy you that. Thankfully its not something I have ever had to do.

Is there any way that instead of working your notice you cangive her her money back ifyou are paid inadvance. I knowthatwhen a family left me they gave me 2 weekspay in lieu of noticeas that is what we agredd they would doas theywere movingand wanted me until they left.

I was working notice because I thought I had to legally. Do I not have to if I refund her the money because id rather not but I think they are going to be stuck as they havent anyone else to look after the children.

I'm not surebut surely someone on here must know. I have heard of parents giving pay in lieu ofnotice so I can't see why it can't work the other way round. You would definitely have to pay her back though if she has paid you already.

Last time I saw an NCMA contract (haven't used them for about 5 years so I might be remembering incorrectly) I thought it said you have to pay the parent in lieu of notice (I took that to mean refund any monies paid PLUS pay them the fees to pay another cm for the period you are unavailable during the notice period).
