Hello my DS is in an independent all year round nursery only closes at Christmas. I've been looking around local school as I like to plan ahead and I got a bit ahead of myself and he has now been accepted at the nursery at the local primary school so he will go right through from nursery to year 6. So now do I keep him where he is for another year or go for it at primary school. The independent nursery has had a few wobbles lately which is why I was looking around.

Is he 3 ready to go full time in September or going to nursery 2 terms early?
If he is early I wouldn't as in my experience children get upset when everyone they know moves on and they are back to the starting activities they did a year ago. If he will be going to reception in September I would and then look for wrap around care like a childminder who will see you through to secondary school with cover for holidays and training days as well as after school.
If you are really unhappy where you are now you could look to move him to a childminder who takes funding and will do next years nursery run, then he would be well settled before that transition and have made friends at the school.

He is 2 now 3 next month so won't be going to reception till September 2020 when he is 4 nearly 5 I think. His nursery has just had an ofsted thing done and came out as inadequate and I'm not very happy why I was looking around and looked at a school at least then he will remain in the same place for a long while.

A few days ago it was taken over but I still feel very uneasy about the whole thing.

What hours does he do now and what hours are the school nursery doing? School nurseries are not usually used as childcare due to shorter hours.
I agree with the previous poster who recommended a childminder for wrap around care and school holidays. You can usually find their details on your local Family Information Service website.

If it's a state school nursery, it normally doesn't guarantee a place in the school, so do check that. Also, as others have said, make sure you have care outside school hours and terms.

Some nurseries do get around inspections by changing hands on paper and names so wiping out bad histories but not always doing recommended improvements.

What are his current hours? Is it a state nursery or not?
Personally I think that it’s a good idea to find alternative childcare pronto for holidays etc. Childcare.co.uk has a decent selection of childcare providers for parents to choose from. Plus guides to help you decide what to look for in any childcare provider.
