How much to charge?

How much would you charge / be happy to pay for looking after 3 children - 3, 1 and 7weeks old from 4pm on Saturday till 9am on Sunday - the parents want to go out Sat night and I'd be in charge of the baby over night - she still feeds once or twice a night + help with all 3 in the evening and morning.
It could be a regular thing - up to 2 weekends a month and it's in Central London.
Please any idea will help, need to talk to the mum by this weekend.

3 small children to put to bed!!

I think you should charge by the hour.

Not sure what the hourly rate should be though.

Do you think £6.50 an hour is too low? You'd be making £110.50 for the night. It sounds reasonable on both sides to me, but I'm not in London.

What were you thinking?

Is this a family for which you are already their nanny? If so, is it live-in?

nannynick · 13/06/2007 18:42

I would charge £150. What you charge is of course down to you, though I would avoid selling yourself too low - there are not that many people (in my view) with the experience and confidence to care for a 7 week old baby plus older siblings.

No, but I work for them when their maternity nurse is off - nights mostly and help with older children on some afternoons on weekends - maybe once a month.
It's just that I've never done those hours for them yet - and when I calculated how much it would be putting together my night rate + weekend rate for the time when the older children are awake it came up to £160 which is quite a lot of money so wanted to know what other people find fair.

I agree with nanny nick. £150 is more than fair for an overnighter with a small baby and older children.

Eleusis · 14/06/2007 15:35

I think as you don't live with them closer to the $150 suggestion is fair. If you lived in I would say closer to the £110 rate. Obviously if you have to pack your things and go sleep in someone else's house that puts you out a bit more than if you just have to stay in in a house where you already live.

I personally charge £40 a night, per child, including breakfast. 12 hours.

Thank you for all your help, all sorted now!
