Anyone with fortnighty collections tried to claim a larger bin?

I know this may be a silly thought but since I started childminding I seem to have a lot more rubbish, nappies etc... and am struggling with the fortnightly collections, I just wondered if anyone had tried to claim a large bin because of the amount of children they care for?

(I know you can claim a large bin if you have a certain no of people in your household just wonder if mindees counted?)

I haven't asked my local council for a bigger or an extra bin as other minders have tried it, and have been getting the "oh, you are running a business" - they will have to pay extra if they want to do it. We are allowed a bigger bin if we have two or more children in nappies but, if I lie and suggest that they are my children, then I am bound to get found out and locked away.

I have four children in nappies for three of my five working days, and three in nappies for the other two (and, like Fio, an older child who is doubly incontinent who comes after school). So far, I have very understanding neighbours who don't mind if I fill up their bins once they've put them out for collection (I'm the one rushing out at 1.00am).

I recycle all my rubbish by allowing my mindees to do lots of junk modelling, and then they take it home!

We don't get our bins provided by our council, we just have our own dustbin but what we put out each week is a pile of black sacks - they don't know how many are ours, how many are the neighbours etc.

We recycle everything we can but still would struggle with fortnightly collections - and how smelly with this heat! YUCK!

Sorry Fio - it's just there is little respect for babysitters....oops sorry childminders sometimes

ThePrisoner · 12/06/2007 20:40

looneytune - ours won't collect anything unless it's in a bin. And that includes anything that falls out of the bin whilst it's been lifted!

looneytune · 12/06/2007 20:47

WTF - not what's fallen out during being lifted??!! That's crazy! Don't they want to keep Britain tidy and all that?!

They don't have any bins really where I am, just put your sacks out (and hope cats etc. don't rumage prior to collection) and then black boxes for recyling and green bags for garden waste.

Well looking at the response this question has had it is obviously a problem for most of you out there and it looks like we just have to put up with it (unless we want to pay to have our rubbish collected because we are a business!!!!!)
