Caring for a friends child

Hello, I'm not sure if anyone can help but figured you may.

Am I right in thinking that legally, if I want to look after a friend's child regularly say 10hrs a week, I have to register as a childminder?

Thanks

If she's paying you and working from your home and child is under 8 then yes.
You will need to go on course to become registered, attend safeguarding courses, first aid and be inspected by Ofsted.
You will also need public liability insurance and everyone in your home over 16 be CRB checked and you sign up to ICO for data protection.
You will need your friend to fill in permission forms too.

Not if its 2 hours a day ....but caring for friends/families children can be a minefield of stress with many feeling taken advantage of so set ground rules. Most cm's wont take on friends and family for a reason.

No registration required if there is no payment.

Also read this document:
assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/645611/Exemptions_EY_and_childcare_reg_handbook.pdf
It applies in England. Childminding regulations will be similar in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland but check with the appropriate regulator.

Thank you, I've done lots of reading since and your comments are helpful, thank you.

I don't need to do a full course due to my previous qualifications but the rest is a must and I'm doing a refresher in eyfs. Seems such a faff to help a friend but I agree with the principles.

Thank you again.
