Hi

I haven't minded for about 2 years now as I needed to focus on ds and his needs. However ds is doing ok now and a friend has asked me to look after her baby.

I am pretty sure that a current first aid certificate is a requirement now. Does anyone know if it will be ok for me to book for the next one to come up and still mind? Mine ran out sometime last year and I didn't bother renewing it as I hadn't planned on minding again.

Also are there any other things that have changed in the last 2 years that you think I should know about. Basically all I have now is a current registation and personal liability insurance.

Thanks in advance.

All I have on my wall are the OFSTED Registration certificate and my NVQ Level 3 certificate. This is my home not a nursery and I keep all my policies, insurance form and other paperwork together in a file.

My dh won't allow me to put any posters up (EYFS and any others), I am going to get a pinboard so I can pin posters on that and take it down at the end of the day. I can then put menus, planned activities and paintings that the children do on that too.

I think its unfair that we are expected to be like nurseries these days and get no more pay for attending courses in our own time like some do. I plan activities and half the time the 4 yr old doesn't want to do the activity so I cannot get evidence for it. I have tried to explain to his parents but they don't encourage him either.

I only have my registration and insurance on the wall - like you my dh doesn't want all the other stuff up. i put the posters in my file with all the other paperwork and the inspector seemed happy with that.

I must admit that if i was starting out now I would definitely be put off childminding due to all the paperwork. I think its good that we are getting recognition as professional child carers but its an awful lot of work and means prices inevitably go up which isn't good for parents looking for affordable childcare.
