Forgot to reconfirm for my 30 hrs free childcare, what happens?

Hi forgot to reconfirm for my 30hrs free childcare and I’m still eligible for this.
I have reconfirmed (late) on the gov website it has sent a message saying I was successful - yay!
The school emailed me today (which is what prompted me to reconfirm) to say she is no longer eligible for this term and I need to pay up front ASAP.
The government website says I was successful though.
Now I’m totally stressed 😩
Has anyone been in this situation? Will the school still get paid the 30hrs free.

Just been caught out by this renewal of childcare and have to pay nursery. Seems like the system is designed to catch you out! I too did not get any reminder got the initial code in April and got told by nursery today that I had to renew the pain is that it's a "fine / penalty" until January.. lucky I can afford this but feel so sorry for parents that would be counting on this funding and being caught out. They can back claim on it either... nicely designed HMRC saves you lots of money!

We got caught too. Out nursery were very good and contacted their local council to say we had confirmed a bit late and that they had said it was successful. Luckily they issued another code. If they don't, you have to pay. Beg the school!! Good luck. X

Interesting because it’s nothing to do with the nurseries or even the LA. The codes are given by HMRC so you must have your wires crossed somewhere.

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

I couldn’t agree more.

At the risk of inviting a flaming, you have to wonder why in heaven's name are childcare providers expected to wet-nurse the parents who can’t be bothered to do a simple renewal task?

SMaCM · 28/10/2019 17:29

Renew, put a reminder in your calendar a week before it expires and then there'll never be a problem. It's HMRC that set the rules, so settings and councils can't do anything if the code isn't renewed in time.

Mons14 · 14/10/2021 21:42

Hi plz advised me I forgot reconfiration 30 hours for child now school said to pay that term about £450 but can I do now

PotteringAlong · 14/10/2021 21:47

This is a proper zombie thread @Mons14 (I’ve seen myself on it from 3 years ago!) but yes, if you didn’t reconfirm then nursery cannot claim the funded place and you are required to pay for it.

Mons14 · 14/10/2021 21:56

Oh my god that’s is really stressful

jannier · 14/10/2021 23:09

When you get a code you must renew it every 3 months if you fail to or are become unemployed you have a 3 months grace period so for nursery nt to be paid your code must be at least 6 months old.

Bulkhead · 02/07/2024 01:16

Have the nursery any moral obligation to inform parents when they are in their grace period? Or when they are aware that the reconfirmation has been missed?

How do you think nurseries or indeed childminders would know this? You have the childcare account not us. We aren't sent the reminders, you are.

Stopthatknocking · 02/07/2024 07:18

In my LA, nurseries can see this information. But with over 150 children on roll, we don't have time to be checking and chasing every one of them.

it's the parents that benefit from this, so they need to take responsibility for checking.

It can't be too hard to check for your own child every 3 months, especially as hmrc send you a reminder.

Don't push all your responsibility onto the nursery, why should they babysit you through this when it's for your benefit?

Have the parents got an obligation to take responsibility for their own life admin and diaries....they get the emails. They are the ones who know the date they applied and only have one or two children to keep on top of how is a nursery supposed to keep track of 30 or so children.

Well yes you can check each one individually, but like you say, who has got time to fill out the details and check them. And how often, every week?

Parents honestly need to pull their finger out since it's they who benefit!
