Where to find a part-time Nanny

I need to find a part-time Nanny. My wonderful Nanny has handed notice in (family commitments). We currently do pay her 24 k per annum for 3 days, but she has over 30 years of experience and has been with us since my little one was 6 months olds.

I rang an agency today and they said no one wants a part-time role unless you are prepared to pay £13 - 15 per hour gross. I am looking to offer £10 hour for 3 days work (this equates to 20K per annum). I am aware it may be on the low end (in the SE); however, my children are all at pre-school/school now so some of the day would be just waiting around for them/being on call for sickness.

I was surprised there was not nursery nurses, "junior nannies" wanting a first position. 20K is more then you get paid round here for 5 days in a nursery and for equivalent hours.

We've thought about au pair but my youngest is only 3 and I think she's a bit little, maybe in a few years.

Am I being unreasonable in my search? Shall I tell my husband he is becoming a house husband (as if we go over 20K then after we've paid tax we would actually make a loss)?

Where could I advertise for a "junior nanny"? Anyone had any success with Childcare.co.uk. I thought I could also advertise at the local college which runs NVQs in childcare.

£10 per hour gross in the South-East? That's too low. You won't find anyone, or if you do they'll keep leaving. Last time I had a nanny which was 2-3 years ago they all wanted £10 per hour net and it seems to have gone up since then. They may be sitting around all day, but they can't do another job in those hours.

I'm in Essex and £10 gross for part-time position is pretty common here. The top salary seems to be around £12-13 gross. I think you will find someone but it's definitely harder to fill part-time positions in my experience.

I've had success with Childcare.co.uk

Do you have a local Nextdoor.co.uk network?

You might be able to find a nanny share also

Very old fashioned but have you tried advertising in The Lady? (A magazine that always carries classified ads for Mothers' Helps, Maternity Nurses etc.)
